New to scooters... help?
Question:
i just want a normal scooter such as vespa (looking to own a used one cause i cant afford a brand new 7000 dollar ones)
i looked at my local classifieds, and they are decently priced for some used scooters (around 1000 or higher and so)
some quesitions since i am realllly new to these scooter things and im just looking into it.
im not looking for anything really fast just somthing to get around my small town.
1) what do they use to feul? and where do they fuel? (i heard that feul for scooters are cheap... is this true?)
2) do u need to wear a helmet (required by law)?
3) how long can i drive them once i fuel up and drive? (approx how many min before i use up all the fuel?)
4) do u need a liscence? if it depends on the province, where do i get the info?
any other info will be greatly appreciated.
i never owned a car or anything so i don't know alot about them even fuel...
Answer:
1. They use standard fuel. The same thing you put in your car, you will put in the scooter. Most scooters have the gas cap hidden under the seat. The seat is lockable on most and will flip up to reveal storage and the gas cap.
2. Some states have helmet laws and some dont. I would recommend wearing a helmet regardless. Your head is worth more than your 'coolness'.
3. This one depends on the size of the tank. Most 50-150cc scooters only have about a 1.5 gallon tank. These kinds of scooters will generally get around 80mpg depending on how hard you are on it. But with 80 mpg, you'll be able to go about 120 miles before you are empty. So in todays prices, that'd be like 120 miles for about 5 bucks. (most cars get about 20mpg which means on one of those scooters, you can go about 4 times as far on it than your average car)
4. This also depends on your city/area. You can make a phone call to your local department of motor vehicles and they'll point you in the right direction.
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to vespa (vespa is the most expensive you can get) try Kymco or Genuine Scooter Co. Kymco's People scooters are VERY nice and VERY reliable. They actually make engines for honda.
